The People

“Ideas are carried on human legs” is how the Italian saying goes, which perfectly captures the spirit of CamminoLento.

The programme of activities has been created from our collaborative experience and planned in detail by our expert nature guides. All our guides have different talents and areas of expertise, united by a common theme: passion for the territory and great people skills.

Some of the activities and special events are curated by guides chosen for their specific skills which are above and beyond just accompanying an excursion.

The Guides

Roberto Salotti

Nature guide and trekking leader.

I grew up in the mountains.

I didn’t just experience all the usual activities: trekking, waterfalls, and climbing wherever I was able to.

I also nurtured an awareness that Nature instils slowly, over time, which has allowed me to follow the stories of the plants, the tracks on the ground and the clouds in the sky.

I learned to live at Nature’s pace, and to ‘lose’ myself for several days in the forest where I feel at home. In nature, time has different parameters and priorities shift.

Most importantly, I found my true calling – sharing the wonders of the natural world with other people, from striking, classic mountain views to the simple beauty of a branch broken by the wind.

Sofia Bartoli

Nature guide and trekking leader.

I love everything sporty and outdoors.

As a kid you were more likely to find me up a tree than with my feet on the ground. I was really active and never stopped moving.

The natural world and the mountains have always been an important part of my life. During the summer I would travel across Italy with my family to go on outdoor excursions, particularly in the Apuan Alps. Wherever we went I would always head straight for the woods to see what there was higher up!

Years have passed, but my enthusiasm for walking up into the hills and mountains is still with me. Not a single day passes without me thinking about a rock face to climb or a mountain to explore. Not a single one.

I love spending time with people, sharing experiences, beautiful views and the excitement of being immersed in nature.

At 23 years old I’m still the avid explorer I was as a kid.

but spending time in the natural world is really a time-stopping experience.

Andrea Rossi

Nature guide and trekking leader.

The Lima Valley is my home.

When I was young and restless, I saw myself living elsewhere. It didn’t really matter where, but definitely abroad in search of new adventures.

This territory asks a lot of those who live here, and for generations people have moved away for one reason or another.

I did too.

Coming back, though, was never really a choice – it was an answer to a calling.

I’m a Nature Guide and a rescue instructor, passionate about the mountains, and I firmly believe that telling the story of this area keeps its collective memory and values alive.

Rediscovering the beauty of one’s own territory of origin, fully living it and sharing it with others is the real adventure.

Sometimes we find the unexpected right where we’re standing.

WOODLAND CREATURE

I’ve walked and walked since forever – my pace is slow, not from tiredness but to be able to embrace every little detail that the world offers me. I’ve met people, animals, discovered the names of long-forgotten places, and heard the sound of a star being formed in the sky.. I started to live and walk with the aim of observing and absorbing beauty rather than covering distances, in order to whisper it like a secret to others.” – Andrea

I graduated from art school at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in 2008. I wrote my dissertation on the theme of walking, inspired by a 45-day trip. I then specialised in Art Therapy with a final project about the folk culture, legends and trails of the Valmalenco, in the province of Sondrio. Over the years I’ve developed my artistic research using themes such as travelling on foot, observing the territory, the study of traditions and ancient wisdom. I focus on the creation of site-specific works of art. Since 2020 I’ve been working as a trekking guide and companion, sharing my alternative vision of walking with others. I live everywhere.

I love to slowly observe what surrounds us. Our hearts and minds work together in harmony when we’re able to feel the wind in our hair, freeing ourselves from the demands of technology and just wandering, following our body’s impulse. It’s a simple, primitive and primordial impulse, and for that reason a powerful method for greater awareness..” Jacopo

My mission as an architect has always been to protect the built culture and landscape of a location, combined with my explorative and activist side aimed at promoting a more sustainable world. In our modern world, dominated by high-speed everything, my approach embraces and promotes exploring by bicycle and on foot as ways to understand and regenerate the territory’s cultural and environmental heritage, recreating the link between us and our shared home. The CamminoLento and ECOlab projects, which I created, were set up with these values in mind.

The Excursions

CamminoLento organises guided excursions of one or more days and special events dedicated to enhancing and regenerating this unique territory.

We head for the forest without a fixed destination, with the sole aim of being embraced by nature. With this philosophy, just sharing the sounds and the silence becomes a mystic ritual. As if by magic, the bonds of friendships strengthen into family ties.
