La via dei Metati + Explore on the river in the canyon

This excursion combines a walking activity in the Lima Valley’s chestnut forest withan exploration by SUP on the river in the beautiful Straits of Coccigliaat Canyon Park, located at Bagni di Lucca in the Lima Valley (the Tuscan Apennines) from above. The canyon is a stunning natural location with limestone canyon walls over 10 metres tall and deep, clear water.

During the excursion the route reaches a characteristic mountain village where we’ll stop for a packed lunch made with genuine local produce. Our ‘pilgrimage’ then continues passing historic huts used for drying chestnuts (the metati), a testament to the historic importance of chestnuts in the area.

After lunch, in mid-afternoon, we’ll head back to Canyon Park for the next part of the day – discovering the Straits of Cocciglia canyon from a SUP (Stand up paddleboard). The Canyon constitutes an exceptional part of the natural heritage of the area.

The route on the river is a unique, explorative experience. You can drink pure natural spring water originating from the karst rock formations and encounter the life forms that populate these crystal clear waters.

We offer this river activity in small groups. It has been planned to ensure maximum enjoyment.
